Kiski Area and GCC Claim Team Trophies at 2024 WCCA Boys Golf Championship

Kiski Area claimed top honors in the Class 3A schools division, with Greensburg Central Catholic pacing the 2A schools, to take home the team champion's trophies at the 2024 Westmoreland County Coaches Association Golf Championship on Thursday, September 12, at Latrobe Elks Golf Club.

The Cavaliers finished with a score of 382, seven shots better than runner-up Greater Latrobe with 389. Norwin finished third with a score of 391.

GCC lead the 2A standings as the Centurions score of 407 topped Mount Pleasant's 412 and Greensburg Salem's 418.

Individually, Kiski Area's Max Mottura and Greensburg Salem's Luke Sikora finished tied to lead the field with 3-under par 69. But it was Mottura who was awarded the gold medal as county champion in a scorecard playoff tiebreaker. The two had matching scores on the first three hardest handicap holes, until Mottura's 3 bested Sikora's 4 on the 4th-hardest hole, the par 4 number 11. Sikora claimed the silver medal as runner-up, and Norwin's Dom Cerilli was the only other golfer to finish under par, with his 2-under 70 securing his third place finish.

Scorecard matching was used to break ties in the finishing order for 6 of the remaining 7 top ten places. Franklin Regional’s Colin Holt was 4th and Latrobe’s Jack Sacriponte 5th, both with 73, and Belle Vernon’s Seth Tomulski was 6th and Greensburg Central Catholic’s Braden Riley 7th, both carding 74. Kiski Area’s Trey Roberts finished alone with 75 for 8th, while Burrell’s Tucker Bitar was 9th and Ligonier Valley’s Tyler Jones 10th, both scoring 76.
