Big Second Half Gives Latrobe Boys Soccer Easy 6-1 Win Over Woodland Hills

The Latrobe's Wildcats and Woodland Hills' Wolverines looked like they were settling in for a classic defensive battle. Neither team had the advantage following one half of play as the two boys soccer teams met on a comfortable night at Latrobe's on-campus Rossi Field. A 1-1 halftime score seemed destined to set up a second half where a single goal by either team could decide the game. But the Wildcats of Latrobe had other thoughts, as they shut down the Wolverines with strong defense, while scratching out five markers of their own to win easily 6-1 in a WPIAL Class 4A Section 3 conference game. 

Woodland Hills was first to crack the scoreboard, scoring early on a Christopher Reyes goal with 32:56 remaining in the half. It was the only shot that would get behind Wildcats' goalkeeper Tanner Sabol all night. Latrobe tied the score on a Matthew Henderson goal with 11:31 left in the half, and neither team got on the board again as the first 40 minutes of play came to a close. 

The Wildcats broke the deadlock at 27:24 remaining in the second half. Henderson was taken down to the left of the Wolverines goal, then he buried the ensuing penalty kick to the left side of Wolverines' goalkeeper Anthony Hill, who dove right on the shot, and Latrobe had the eventual game-winning goal on the board. But the Wildcats were not done, as Luca Diianni scored a pair of goals at 19:11 and 14:58 remaining to put the Cats comfortably ahead 4-1. Nolan Agostoni put his name in the scoring recap with a goal at 5:18 remaining, and Christian Stanley put a shot into the twine just as the clock hit all zeroes, giving Latrobe the decisive 6-1 victory.

Latrobe's record improves to 8-5-0 in conference, 8-6-1 overall. Woodland Hills record falls to 1-11-0 in conference, 3-11-0 overall. Both teams are back in action Thursday as Latrobe travels to Hempfield and Woodland Hills hosts Connellsville.
