Derry Area Soccer Teams Celebrate Senior Night on the Road

The Derry Area High School boys and girls soccer teams took their Senior Night festivities on the road to Offutt Field in Greensburg on Wednesday night Oct. 10, 2018. The teams were unable to mark the occasion on their home field due to poor conditions from recent weather. Led by a trio of seniors - Edward Darbous, who scored a hat trick, Bradley Jones, who notched a single goal, and goaltender Robert Boyer - the Derry boys shut out Valley 4-0 in their WPIAL Class 2A Conference game. The boys team honored 12 seniors minutes after their game ended. The following seniors were honored: Christian Bartlebaugh, Anthony Mastrorocco, David Jasper, Edward Darbous, Lucas Snyder, Bradley Jones, Dylan Jones, Nicholas Aukerman, Gavin Johnson, Alexander Simon, Alex Murphy and Robert Boyer. Two senior Lady Trojans - Mackenzie Edminston and Leila Quichetto - were honored during the same ceremony at midfield of the stadium. Following the Senior Night festivities, the Derry girls played Yough in the second game of the doubleheader. Yough junior Justine Appolonia scored a hat trick and sophomore Natalie Vilchek scored twice in the opening half of play. Junior Hadley Sleith added a lone goal and the visiting Cougars took a 6-0 lead over Derry into halftime of their WPIAL Class 2A conference game. Yough added two second half goals and shut out Derry 8-0.
