Norwin Boys Open Section Play with 69-57 Win at Hempfield

If basketball games were decided by how a team finishes, Hempfield's boys would have won their Class 6A Section 3 opening game at home against Norwin. From the opening tick of the second quarter clock until the final horn in the fourth, the Spartans outscored the visiting Knights 48-47. But a basketball game is four quarters, not three, and the opening quarter put Hempfield in a 22-9 hole that three quarters of good play couldn't overcome, and the Knights from North Huntingdon went home with a 69-57 win on a Friday, December 21st evening at Spartan Fieldhouse. 

Jayden Walker led Norwin with 17 points, followed closely by Gianni Rizzo with 16 and Ty Bilinsky's 14. Hempfield's Reed Hipps led all scorers on the night with 25, while Drew Coletta also hit double digits for the Spartans with 10. Hipps had 11 of his total during the fourth quarter. 

Norwin improves to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the section, with their only blemish being a non-conference loss to high-powered Franklin Regional. Hempfield's record moves to 4-3 overall, 0-1 in section play.
