Belle Vernon Boys Soccer Finds Second Half Spark to Beat Greensburg Salem 3-1

Belle Vernon boys soccer, trailing the home team Golden Lions and having been shut out in the first half, finally found their groove in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to beat Greensburg Salem 3-1 in a WPIAL Class 3A Section 3 tilt at Offutt Field in Greensburg. 

Both teams were kept off the scoreboard for the majority of the first half. Greensburg Salem broke the ice in the 39th minute when Joshua Klueber dropped a shot in just over the gloves of a leaping Leopards' keeper TJ Watson for a 1-0 halftime lead for the Lions. 

Markello Apodiakos got the Leopards back to all square when he scored past Lions goalkeeper Sage Parsley less than 4 minutes into the second half. The match remained tied for the next 22 minutes until Belle Vernon's Aaron Brown broke the logjam with his goal in the 67th minute. Markello Apodiakos sealed the win with his second tally of the night in the 76th minute, as the Leopards claimed the victory and a half-game lead over the Lions for third place in the section standings behind Laurel Highlands and Ringgold. Belle Vernon improves to 4-1-1 in the conference, 7-1-1 overall. Greensburg Salem falls to 4-2-0 in conference, 5-2-0 overall.
