Yough Girls Soccer Blanks Derry 5-0 for Conference Win at Home

Yough girls soccer took a 3-0 lead into halftime, then added two more for good measure in blanking Derry Area 5-0 in a Class 2A Section 3 matchup at Yough's Cougar Mountain Stadium. 

Yough junior Justine Appolonia opened scoring with a goal in the 13th minute. It was the only goal the Lady Cougars would need. Yough played most of the game in Derry's end of the pitch, working the ball meticulously for offensive scoring chances while rarely allowing Derry  across midfield offensively in the first half. Mary Zipfel rang up the Cougars next goal in the 29th minute, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Justine Appolonia put her second goal of the night into the twine in the 36th minute as she got out front on a breakaway and scored past Derry goalkeeper Faith Sheen.

Following intermission, Lady Cougars freshman Hannah Biros scored in the 48th minute, and Hadley Sleith rounded out the Yough scoresheet with her goal in the 67th minute. Yough keeper Sara Krofcheck had a quiet night in recording the shutout, seeing very few shots near her goal until late in the game when Yough got some playing time for their underclassmen. 

Yough improves their conference record to 3-2-0, overall 4-2-0. Derry falls to 1-3-0 in conference, 1-4-0 overall.
