GCC Boys Avenge Earlier Loss with 62-54 Home Win over St. Joseph 

Greensburg Central Catholic's boys used a strong second half performance, overcoming a three-point St. Joseph halftime lead, winning the rematch of Class A foes 62-54 on their home court in Carbon. 

GCC's Joel LoNigro scored on a layup off the opening tip, and another layup by Geoff Helm had the Centurions with 4 points on the board in the first 30 seconds, to the delight of the packed partisan home crowd. But the Spartans immediately reeled GCC back in before they could run away with the lead. St. Joseph found their rhythm and led 19-13 after one quarter and 33-30 at the half. With a crucial section victory on the line, GCC came out of the locker room swinging to start the second half. The Centurions outscored the Spartans 16-5 in the third quarter, then matched the visitors 16-16 in the final quarter to claim the victory in the second meeting of the two teams in a competitive Class A Section 3.

GCC's Geoff Helm led all scorers with 25, and Max Pisula added 14. St. Joseph scoring was a mix of several players dominating for a quarter at a time, but nobody putting up consistent scoring for the entire game. Matt Arvay led the Spartans with 14 points, 11 of which he scored in the first quarter and 3 more added in the fourth. Grant Bendis had 13 points, which all came in the second half, while Chris Singleton canned his 12 markers all in the second quarter. Bendis scored all five of the Spartans' point in the third quarter.   

GCC improves to 4-3 in section play, with an 8-6 record overall. St. Joseph drops into a tie with Leechburg at 5-2 in Section 3 play, 11-5 overall. GCC joins Clairton in sitting one game behind the two section leaders.
