Greensburg Salem Girls Avenge Early Season Loss with 62-40 Win Over Burrell

If there was any question whether Greensburg Salem girls basketball had a score to settle over a mid-December loss at Burrell, it was answered quickly and emphatically during the rematch on January 22nd. Megan Kallock took the opening tip from Abby Mankins, and before 5 seconds ticked off the game clock, scored to put the Lady Lions up 2-0 on the visiting Lady Bucs. Kallock would bump the score to 7-0 before Burrell got their first and only two points of the opening quarter, as the Greensburg Salem senior would go on to score 16 of the Lions 20 first quarter points enroute to a 62-40 section win on their home court.

Trailing 20-2 after 8 minutes, Burrell got on track in the second quarter, matching the Lady Lions with 15 points, but not shaving any points off their deficit as they headed into the halftime locker room down 35-17. Megan Kallock took the wheel again in the third, scoring 9 of the Lions 14 points, and two more than the Bucs total of 7, and suddenly Greensburg Salem held a comfortable 25 point lead at 49-24 after 3 quarters. Greenburg Salem head coach Rick Klimchock rested his starters midway through the final quarter with the game safely in hand and the Lions picked up a much needed win to keep pace with Apollo Ridge for fourth place in the Class 4A Section 1 standings.

Kallock's 33 points led all scoring while teammates Nikki Mellinger and Abby Mankins both chipped in 12 for the Lady Lions. Burrell was led by Kaylen Sharrow with 15 points and Allison Fisher joined her in double figures with 13. 

Greensburg Salem's record in section play improves to 4-5, with an 8-7 mark overall. Burrell drops to 2-7 in the section, with an overall record of 4-10.
