Franklin Regional Boys Lacrosse Cruises to 9-3 Win over Sewickley Academy

Franklin Regional broke an early 1-1 tie with seven unanswered goals in a row, going on to beat Sewickley Academy 9-3 in a Thursday night boys lacrosse battle at Franklin Regional Stadium in Murrysville.  

Franklin Regional senior Riley Bair broke the ice with with a goal off a turnover 1:40 into the game. Matthew Meakem tied the game for Sewickley Academy less than two minutes later, and it looked like a cat fight was on between the two schools that share the Panther moniker as their mascot. The teams settled in for the next six minutes before Bair added his second goal at 2:32 of the first quarter for a 2-1 lead. It was the first of a string of seven Franklin Regional goals during a period of over 31 minutes in which Sewickley Academy was kept off the scoreboard. Meakem finally stopped the bleeding with his second goal at 1:24 remaining in the third quarter to cut Franklin Regional's lead to 8-2. Both teams traded single goals in the final frame as the Panthers from Murrysville scratched out the win. 

Riley Bair had 3 of the first 4 goals for Franklin Regional, leading the team scoring with his hat trick. Matthew Meakem claimed all three of Sewickley Academy's goals to tie Bair for game-high honors. Greg Baird and Ryan Stackiewicz both added a pair of goals for the victors, with Lex Hurey and Kevin Cakanac each chipping in for one. Senior Ethan Johnston picked up the win guarding the net for Franklin Regional, with Josh Thomas minding the cage for Sewickley Academy.
