Latrobe Boys Lacrosse Overcomes Late 2-Goal Deficit to Beat Norwin 9-8 in Overtime 

Latrobe scored twice in the final minute of regulation to tie, then got the game winner in overtime to beat Norwin 9-8 in a spirited boys lacrosse game on Tuesday, April 2, at Rossi Field at Greater Latrobe High School. 

Latrobe opened the scoring with a Matt Bobula goal 38 seconds into the contest. Jared Stein added a goal two minutes later for the Wildcats, followed by Bobula's second marker a minute after that, and Latrobe had a 3-0 lead 3- 1/2 minutes into the game. Norwin was shut out for the entire first quarter before breaking the ice with Cameron Masten's goal at 9:36 of the second frame. It was the spark that the Knights needed as they erased the Wildcats' advantage with a pair of Alex Flemm goals at 8:46 and 7:45. Latrobe went back on top with a Colvin Stallings goal at 6:36 remaining in the half but their lead was short lived. Norwin tied the game on Nick Shavel's goal with 5:07 left to play, then took a 5-4 lead into halftime following Masten's second goal at 3:58 remaining before intermission.  

The Wildcats tied the game again just over 4 minutes into the second half on Colvin Stallings' second goal, then jumped back in front on Jared Stein's second just over a minute later. Norwin tied the game again as Masten got the hat trick with just under 3 minutes to go in the third quarter. The fourth quarter opened 6-6 before Norwin scored a pair of goals midway through the quarter, with Flemm getting his third of the night and Dan Good adding his name to the scorebook for an 8-6 Norwin lead. The Knights appeared to have the game in hand as the clock was ticking off the final minute, but Latrobe had other plans as Alex Walker got behind Norwin goalie Nolan Mullen to score with 49 seconds left. With time running out, Walker brought the Latrobe fans to their feet as he knocked in a rebound with 15.3 seconds left to tie the game at 8 all and force overtime play.

Both teams had good scoring opportunities come up short in the overtime frame before Latrobe called timeout with possession and 45.6 left on the clock. Whatever play Latrobe came up with during the timeout paid off as Colvin Stallings shot with 22.1 on the clock found its way into the twine for his hat trick and the game winner for the Wildcats. Freshman Cameron Rohrer played the entire game in goal for Latrobe, while Nolan Mullen played the full game in goal for Norwin.
