Peters Township Boys Lacrosse Breezes to 18-4 Win at Hempfield

It's a long bus ride from their home in Washington County to Hempfield's Spartan Stadium, but the trip out east seems to suit the Peters Township Indians. For the second time in three days, Peters Township boys lacrosse had their way with a Westmoreland County team. After beating the Norwin Knights 12-5 two days earlier, the Indians' bus drove about 5 miles farther down Route 30 to visit the Spartans of Hempfield. Peters Township scored early and often on the Spartans, with eight Peters Township players getting their name on the scoresheet, as they beat Hempfield 18-4 on Thursday, April 11.

Michael Vilsack didn't waste any time getting the Indians on the board, scoring when only 25 ticks had come off the first quarter clock. He added his second goal 41 seconds later, and Hempfield was facing a 2-0 deficit just over a minute into the game. Only 49 more seconds elapsed before Nico Mahramas found the net for Peters. Dominic DeRiso got Hempfield on the board with his goal at 6:09 left in the quarter. Peters Township added two more before the opening quarter ended as Vilsack completed the hat trick at the 1:34 mark, and Colin Pakela got his first of the game 11 seconds later. 

The second quarter saw Zach Magnotti and Gabe Maloni get their first goals of the game for the Indians while Pakela added a pair to notch his hat trick. Another Dominic DeRiso goal midway through the quarter for Hempfield made the score 9-2 at halftime.

Peters Township poured it on in the third quarter with single goals by Brady Seekely and Corbin Hondru, one more each for Vilsack and Maloni, and a pair for Magnotti, giving him three on the night. Joe DeRiso and Isaiah Forsyth scored goals for Hempfield and the Spartans went into the fourth quarter trailing 15-4.

Maloni got his hat trick 34 seconds into the final quarter, and the 16-4 score started the running clock for the rest of the game. Vilsack closed the night with his fifth goal with about two minutes left to play, and Keyan Moser was the final Indian into the scorebook with his goal a minute later, ending the game with Peters Township on top 18-4.

Michael Vilsack's 5 goal night led all scoring, while Colin Pakela, Zach Magnotti, and Gabe Maloni all had hat tricks. Dominic DeRiso's two goals led Hempfield. Liam O'Neill was solid in front of the net for Peters Township while junior Andrew Hempel had goalie duties for Hempfield.
