Belle Vernon scores seven touchdowns to earn a 43-3 victory over Greensburg Salem in WPIAL Class 4A action.

Belle Vernon senior quarterback Jared Hartman passed for three touchdowns and rushed five yards for another while leading the visiting Leopards past Greensburg Salem 43-3 on Friday night Sept. 27, 2019 in Greensburg.

Belle Vernon received the opening kick and wasted little time before Hartman threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Andrew Pacak for what would turn out to be the winning score at the 8:41 mark of the first quarter.

Belle Vernon kicker Cameron Guess added the extra point, and the Leopards led 7-0.

Greensburg Salem marched the ball down the field when wide receiver Ryan Thomas hauled in a pass from senior quarterback Trent Patrick in the corner of the end zone.

The touchdown was called off due to a penalty and the Golden Lions had to settle for a 21-yard field goal by junior kicker Wyatt Ramer.

The first quarter ended with BelleVernon leading 7-3.

Belle Vernon senior running back Larry Callaway started off the scoring in the second quarter as he found the end zone for the first of his three touchdowns on the night from 12 yards out. Guess added the extra point, giving Belle Vernon a 14-3 lead.

Leopard senior wide receiver Nolan Labuda hauled in a five-yard touchdown pass and Guess added the extra point to extend Belle Vernon’s lead 21-3.

Hartman then found Pack on a 79-yard touchdown pass and Callaway scored on a two point conversion making the score 29-3.

Belle Vernon defensive lineman Dakota Marion intercepted Greensburg Salem quarterback Trent Patrick setting up another score for the Leopards when Hartman added a touchdown on a 5-yard keeper.

Guess added the kick as the Leopards took a commanding 36-3 lead over the Golden Lions.

Belle Vernon wasn’t done lighting up the scoreboard in the second quarter as Callaway added one last touchdown when he reached the end zone from five yards out to end the scoring in the first half.

Guess again added the extra point and the Leopards led 36-3 at halftime.

In the second half, Callaway scored his third touchdown of the night on another 5-yard run as he bowled over Greensburg Salem’s Connor Moore at the goal line.

Guess added his sixth extra point of the evening and Belle Vernon ended the scoring at 43-3.

Belle Vernon junior defensive back Dane Andean intercepted Patrick in the fourth quarter of the lopsided victory at Offutt Field.

Belle Vernon is now 3-1 on the season, while Greensburg Salem drops to a 2-3 record.
