Yough Girls Soccer Rolls to 9-1 Non-Conference Win at Greensburg Salem

Four scorers accounted for all of Yough's goals as the Lady Cougars beat the Lady Lions of Greensburg Salem 9-1 in a non-conference game at Greensburg's historic Offutt Field on Thursday, September 26, 2019.

Yough got on the board soon after the opening kickoff as freshman McKenzie Pritts scored before two minutes had ticked off the clock. Natalie Vilchek soon made it 2-0 for the Cougars with her goal less than 3 minutes later.

Senior captain Justine Appolonia was next into the Yough scorebook when her shot deflected off a Lady Lions defender in front of the net and went in for a goal in the 13th minute. After the third Yough goal was scored, sophomore Jordyn Anderson replaced starting senior goalkeeper Erika Christeleit in net for the Lions.

Vilcheck added her second goal of the game in the 21st minute, and Justine Appolonia got her second in the 23rd minute. The half ended with Yough leading Greensburg Salem 5-0.

Yough sophomore goalkeeper Marin Sleith replaced starting senior goalkeeper Sara Krofcheck in the second half, as Krofcheck exited after a perfect first half in goal.

Just as she did to open the game, Yough's McKenzie Pritts scored early as second half play began with her second goal coming in the first minute of the half. With the score already at 6-0, the clock began to run continuously throughout the remainder of the game.

Greensburg Salem finally got on the scoreboard with a goal from Maddie Gall in the 46th minute of the game. But it was too little too late for the Lions, who were not able to mount a comeback against the speedy Cougars.

Another goal by Pritts in the 48th minute, and a third by Vilchek in the 54th minute gave both players a hat-trick for the game. Yough closed the scoring with a goal from freshman Hannah Wright in the 78th minute, and the Cougars secured the 9-1 victory.

Yough's overall record improves to 8-1-0, and they remain at 6-1-0 in Class 2A Section 3 play. Greensburg Salem is 4-5-0 overall, with their Class 3A Section 2 record at 4-3-0. Both teams resume section play on Monday, September 30, with Yough hosting Mount Pleasant and Greensburg Salem traveling to Uniontown.
