Second Half Surge Powers Norwin Boys to 5-1 Win over Latrobe
Latrobe kept pace with Norwin for over a half of play, but the Knights turned on the jets early in the second half to power past the Wildcats and claim a 5-1 win in boys soccer action on Tuesday, September 22, at Greater Latrobe High School's Rossi Field.
Norwin got on the scoreboard early with an Eli Baglio goal 5 minutes into the match. Latrobe answered midway through the half when Nico Lorenzi slipped a shot past Knights' keeper Andy Yanez to even the score 1-1. The score remained tied until late in the half when Ian Brown to put Norwin back on top 2-1. It remained that way for the rest of the half as the teams broke for intermission.
The second half was all Norwin as the Knights peppered Wildcats senior goalkeeper Tanner Sabol with shots for 40 minutes. The Knights opened it up quickly as junior Caleb Yuricha scored 3 minutes into the half, followed by a Riley Zimmerman goal less than five minutes later. Yuricha's second goal of the night with 10 minutes left to play closed out the scoring and iced the 5-1 Norwin victory.
Both teams are back in action with local games against conference opponents on Thursday. Norwin (3-0-0) hosts Penn-Trafford while Latrobe (1-1-0) travels to Hempfield.
