Girls Basketball - Latrobe vs Norwin
Norwin Girls Cruise to 59-21 Win over Hurting Latrobe SquadNorwin enjoyed an uncharacteristically easy 59-21 win as they faced an injury-depleted Latrobe team in a non-conference girls matchup at Greater Latrobe High School on Monday, December 12. Latrobe was never in the game from the opening tipoff. The Lady Wildcats were forced to field a less experienced lineup than coach Mark Burkhardt would like after 6-1 senior Emma Blair went down with an injury during a game the team played in Virginia over the past weekend. Her status to return is currently unknown as she watched the game from the bench with crutches. Blair is the linchpin of a Latrobe squad that is already down a starter with the absence of junior Elle Snyder. Snyder has been out of the lineup since suffering an injury during volleyball season. Her return date is also currently unknown. While Latrobe is hobbled, coach Brian Brozeski's Norwin team is anything but. The currently undefeated Lady Knights are loaded with size, speed, and a deep bench. The Knights got points from 10 different players in the win over the Wildcats. Norwin opened the game with a 17-6 first quarter advantage, with Kendall Berger racking up 11 points for the Knights. Latrobe settled in and held their ground in the second quarter, but still trailed 29-16 as the teams broke for halftime. But the wheels of the Latrobe train fell off in the third quarter. Norwin outscored the Cats 21-0, as the game became a mercy-ruled contest before the quarter expired. Junior Ava Kobus dropped 17 points over the second and third quarters, including five 3-pointers. The scoring pace slowed in the final quarter as both teams got some playing time for their reserves, with the outcome already settled. Norwin was led by Ava Kobus with 17, followed by Kendall Berger with 11 and Lauren Palangio with 10. Carley Berk led the Wildcats with 8 points. Norwin (5-0) will host South Fayette in a non-conference game on 12/15. Latrobe (4-2) begins conference play 12/15 with a trip to Oakland Catholic.
