Mount Pleasant Girls Cruise to 60-36 Win over Ligonier Valley

Mount Pleasant snapped a 7-game losing streak in convincing fashion, beating visiting Ligonier Valley 60-36 in a Class 4A Section 3 girls basketball game on February 8, at Mount Pleasant. 

The Vikings opened up a 8 point first quarter lead over the Lady Rams and doubled it by halftime to lead 30-14 at the intermission. Ligonier Valley struggled to put points on the board in the first half, but when they did it came from long range. The Rams scored 12 of their 14 first half points on 3-point shots. 

Mount Pleasant continued their scoring pace in the second half, with a pair of 15-point quarters doubling their first half total. Ligonier Valley found a bit of a spark in the third quarter, but they never really got close enough to threaten the Vikings win.    

Mount Pleasant's Tiffany Zelmore led all scoring with 24 points, followed by Alli Bailey with 13. Madison Marinchak led the Rams with 10 points, including three 3-pointers. Ligonier Valley drained six 3-point shots in the game. Zelmore was a frequent guest at the foul line, making 14 of 18 attempts for the Vikings. 

Next up for Mount Pleasant (7-12, 2-8) is a rematch at Ligonier Valley on 2/10. Ligonier Valley (2-16, 0-9) has a home game with West Mifflin on 2/9 before their return date with the Vikings on Thursday. The Rams will play four games on consecutive days this week, finishing at Elizabeth Forward on 2/11. Mount Pleasant has three games over the same 4 day span.
